A new species of ape Tapanuli orangutan has been discovered. It was first discovered in 1997 by scientists in Indonesia. After about twenty years of studying the orangutans, the scientists has advanced to bring better result about it. The Tapanuli is genetically distinct to other orangutans. They behave like other apes including the way they jump from one tree to another.
But the little difference between some of them is that they have many hairs on their skin and they also feed very well on fresh leaves (they are herbivorous animals). To date, there have only been two known species of orangutan the Sumatran and the Bornean. And with only eight hundred individuals, the Tapanuli orangutan will go straight onto the Critically Endangered list.
